Combined live action (handled by Akio Jissoji) and animation (handled by Shigetsugu Yoshida). Released as a TV special. Note: The book was adapted into a 1954 live-action film by former propagandist Keisuke Kinoshita. The story was remade as the 1987 live-action film "Children on the Island."
