Btw, I switched my x264 build from r2851 back to r2833.
Thanks to Zastin telling me that the new version forces no-8x8dct on 444 encodes for no reason (due to a bug?).
Anyway, I won't re-encode the older episodes. That probably makes too less of a difference anyway.

nvm, really looks like an issue just for kmod. Teekyuu has the newest build and looks fine.

I just wonder why only kmod is affected by that.
Actually tmod is affected by that as well. I forgot to mention that this issue just happens with 4:4:4 and not 4:2:0 (Teekyuu isn't 4:4:4).
So it's still an x264 issue (tmod/kmod doesn't matter).

disabling it in 4:4:4 is intentional, not a bug

Could be, but I don't get why it happens now and not in all earlier builds. There has to be a reason for that (but I personally don't get why).
You also have no chance to activate it, even when you still want it.
there's a comment in the commit that says it was disabled for compatibility with libavcodec
