Description

Orphan presents the first English-subtitled version of Toei's 1974 feature-length cartoon, Kikansha Yaemon: D51 no Daibouken (Yaemon the Locomotive: D51's Great Adventure). This is a heart-warming story about a tired but game D51 steam locomotive and the lonely boy who loves him... Yeah, exactly.

About a third of the movie is live-action shots of trains, mostly steam locomotives in action:

The rest is a story about Yaemon's struggle to stay relevant in age of increased electrification and high-speed travel. He is dismissed by the other engines in the roundhouse; his only supporters are the boy Tadashi and his crew of mice.
