Note: HU subtitles for S01E13-S01E24 are not available. EL, ID, and FA subtitle timings were modified to remove commercial delays. Do not expect perfection.

Encoding Details:

We denoised and rescaled the JPBD via VapourSynth using ArtCNN and encoded with our SWAN system to target a SSIMULACRA2 score of ~80. Typically, we avoid any denoising whenever possible but in this special case the bitrates without denoising would be 3-10 times higher than necessary. The noise was replaced with an extremely strong photon noise value varying from 4 to 12 (est. 4000-12000 ISO) in scenes determined to be noisy. Scenes that were not determined to be noisy had minimal photon noise (200 ISO) applied. We recommend checking out the Comparisons section below to see how it looks. SVT Film Grain Synthesis was insufficient for this task and the generated grain is dissimilar to the noise in the JPBD.

We embarked on developing a method to discriminate between noisy and clean scenes specifically to handle this series. It has been in use for some time now but has been further improved to address varying amounts of noise in each scene. This solution is not perfect as some scenes, particularly dark ones, are excessively noisy.

If you prefer to watch this series without the film grain, you can use Grav1synth to remove or replace the grain synthesis according to your own preference. Film grain rendering can also be disabled in the mpv media player configuration during playback. See mpv's manual for details. Be aware the denoising is imperfect and without a sufficient amount of noise, temporal artifacts will become noticeable. We recommend watching with film grain as it emulates the original visuals.

This project is a production with the goal of the smallest video size with moderate subjective compromises to image quality. This is not the hallmark of AV1, but close enough. This release should only contain changes to the video stream and audio tracks. The subtitle and attachment tracks are usually copied from the noted sources. Timings are not adjusted except in cases of extreme delay as a result of mixing sources. - SavI0r
