His reaction to boiled potatoes is this because sweet potato in Japanese is "Satsumaimo" (and Count is proud of his Satsuma origins) while "Imozamurai" means a rustic samurai.
Episode 14:
Shinobu gets a love letter, signed with "Waki." Benio comments on that with "Author, seriously!? Even you?" - Waki here is the name of Waki Yamato, the author of Haikara-san source manga.
