Encoding Details:

We rescaled the JPBD via VapourSynth using ArtCNN. Episodes 1-12 were encoded using our Normal-Boost encoding system based on the principles of normal distribution to improve poorly encoded scenes and improve efficiency. Episodes 13-25 were encoded using our brand new system for determining CRF values per scene for a given target SSIMULACRA2 score before the video is even encoded. We'll refer to this system as SWAN for the time being. The CRF values were chosen from a range of 12 to 60 and Presets from -1 to 4 so the values in the Av1an command below are an approximation at best. As SWAN is a different approach, it's ripe for further improvements and optimizations using similar techniques from our experience developing Normal-Boost and Av1an Bypass. One such improvement yet implemented would be a refinement pass to fix outliers via Av1an Bypass.

This project is a production with the goal of the smallest video size with significant subjective compromises to image quality. This is not the hallmark of AV1, but close enough. This release should only contain changes to the video stream and audio tracks. The subtitle and attachment tracks are usually copied from the noted sources. Timings are not adjusted except in cases of extreme delay as a result of mixing sources. - Sav1or

The header above links to the comparison between the rescaled JPBD, our AV1 SWAN encode, and HEVC from Cleo. Below are a couple of the comparisons between Cleo and this release. Typically, we try to compare against a release of similar size and/or quality but that was not possible this time as the nearest HEVC release strayed, in our opinion, too far from the original source without the benefit of size-efficiency.
