Release

Encoded in AV1 and OPUS for optimum size and quality. This release is separate from the 1st season as a BD source is unavailable at the time and all Web sources are of exceptionally abysmal quality. Files are named to support media servers like Plex using TVDB metadata.

Encoding Details:

We attempted to employ VapourSynth to rescale/descale the image which vastly improved upon the overall sharpness similarly to how we did for Season 1. However, due to the constant artifacting in the source material, this would be like putting lipstick on a pig covered in mud. Furthermore, our metric analysis in Normal-Boost was hampered by the artifacting resulting in score distribution curves that do not resemble a normal distribution. Therefore, we opted to forego Normal-Boost and the lower presets for the simplest encode setup to target a small release.

This project is a production with the goal of the smallest video size with significant subjective compromises to image quality. This is not the hallmark of AV1, but close enough. This release should only contain changes to the video stream and audio tracks. The subtitle and attachment tracks are usually copied from the noted sources. Timings are not adjusted except in cases of extreme delay as a result of mixing sources. - Sav1or
