Release

A Dual Audio release encoded in AV1 and OPUS for optimum size and quality. This release is not considered complete as the 3rd and 4th seasons, Lostorage Incited WIXOSS and Lostorage Conflated WIXOSS, may be released separately and recap OVAs are omitted. Files are named to support media servers like Plex using TVDB metadata.

Encoding Details:

Selector Infected WIXOSS & Selector Spread WIXOSS has action scenes like any other show, but the artstyle also makes heavy use of textures and particle effects which make some scenes far more complex than others, requiring significantly lower --crf values to retain any detail. We tested --crf 16 on S01E01 and ended up with a file over 500mb. This was absolutely unacceptable for our file size target and we needed a better solution. As such, this is the first project to implement Av1an zones, which is essentially a way for us to choose specific encoding settings on a scene-to-scene basis. For simple dialogue scenes, we used a --crf value of 30, in the simplest scenes we used at most 35, and in most complex scenes we used 24 or lower. Also note we used --preset 4 instead of the usual --preset 6 to avoid some egregious artifacting. These values were mostly chosen based on some sample clip encoding experiments and the experience we have gained over our previous projects. They are not the result of any automation whatsoever and thus, this level of detail should not be expected from every project. With these extreme optimizations, we have been able to exceed our size target for most of the episodes.

This project is a production with the goal of the smallest video size with considerable subjective compromises to image quality. This is not the hallmark of AV1. This release should only contain changes to the video stream and audio tracks. The subtitle and attachment tracks are usually copied from the noted sources. Timings are not adjusted except in cases of extreme delay as a result of mixing sources. - Sav1or
