So, first, we get to know the reason "Fitz" didn't say a word to Rudeus is... because she doesn't know how he'd react if he didn't recognize her.
What does she do? Does she ask him about his past childhood friends or something along these lines? Nope, she just ignores the problem and wastes more time.
Brilliant characterization. Did she lose half her brain in the fall, too?

And OF COURSE, in the magic school of this world, we are literally living in college! It is totes credible and definitely doesn't break the suspension of disbelief! And how does that work? The other bitch (who is also into the pedophile protagonist, as always) magically creates them and no one bats an eye!

Which school doesn't just blindly approve radical changes to its core structure when a mysterious student with a mask on her face suggests them?

Also, how confusing is it that they are talking in Japanese but suddenly it's actual Japanese and Sylphiette doesn't understand a thing? Did no one realize how goofy this sounds? We've been hearing Japanese people talking in Japanese for the past 35 episodes you idiots!

A brief nitpick but why is Nanahoshi wondering if Rudeus is American or European? He is literally speaking Japanese in front of you! Hell, he even uses a Japanese common saying by her own admission! Wonderful dialogue as always, Magonote-sama! Page filler AT BEST.

P.S. The subs are broken when they speak the demon tongue, by the way. It's barely readable when both tracks are on top of the Japanese subs. I'm on MPV and all that.

It's a pretty natural assumption for a Japanese person to make when meeting someone who doesn't look Japanese. Japanese people, teenagers in particular, tend to be blind to the fact that not all cultures understand the same sayings as well.

That is your assumption. We are talking about someone who got reincarnated into another world. It's not the same experience a Japanese would have in real life.

You are comparing the appearance of netizens of a different world to that of ours. Of course he doesn't look like one of them. And even the counter-argument that "she didn't know he was reincarnated, she thought they both got teleported" doesn't stand, since Rudeus has been growing and she herself does notice it given the difference in appearance and size from back when Orsted almost killed them.

Actually, it gets even more convoluted when she asks him about the two girls. You'd do that only to someone you think is an actual Japanese person, otherwise, it'd be pointless.

Which also raises another question, why the fuck did she not say anything before? Why did she wait for Orsted to almost kill him, ask him to revive Rudeus back to life... and THEN leave? I know that it happened because the plot demanded it, but it makes 0 logical sense. Just bring him back to the world of the living and explain all that stuff to the pedo... since it was so important to her, anyway.

Not limited to "Japanese" per se. But yeah.
For example: Just because this guy speaks Bihari (A dialect of Hindi) in a flawless accent doesn't mean I am gonna assume he's Indian (Though I am gonna call him BTS ka choda).

Rare Interruptor L tbh

Again, I don't think you understand what I'm saying. Even considering a blatant extreme outliner case, you are talking about a person born into our world with specific somatic characteristics. When you deal with a whole new world when you are reincarnated, ethnic appearances are completely useless since you cannot infer anything from them, except the fact that Cockeus is talking Japanese.

A cursory Google search eloquently illustrates my point: out of 125.1 million native speakers, 124 million reside in Japan. The first thing any sane person would do is think they are Japanese because that's the most probable explanation. Even better when they use actual common sayings.

Not sure if leaving 渡りに船 as "godsend" is a good idea... Same issue as those "thank god" in S1. It doesn't seem like that expression has anything to do with gods but it makes people assume the wrong things because of the nature of the story.

I don't really care about the use of god at all, but it would be better if that line were something more distinctly connected to our world specifically. My understanding is that the point of the line is that Rudeus is using another Japanese expression like he did earlier, and Sevenstar is happy about that. Something anachronistic would be good, for example, or anything else that clearly doesn't fit the setting of Mushoku Tensei. If you can think of something like that, I'll replace the line with it for batch (pending consultation with the translator since I might be off base about what the original line is trying to do).

You could make it sound like an idiom. "So, me being here must be like a bridge over troubled waters for you" if you want to go the literal route. Alternatives include "like a beacon in the storm", "like an oasis in the desert", "a compass", "your North Star", or something along those lines.

For reference, I looked up what chapters this was adapting and found out that the LN went with "I guess I'm the man of your dreams, then."

There's more important things than arguing about character writing and culture. Are there lolis in this episode?

Some other thing I noticed while rewatching the episode: what she says when the subtitles say "I know... I know you've suffered too" definitely matches the LN translation better "You... You suffered too, didn’t you?!"
Also, I'm not sure if replacing "the local language" by Human was the right move here. He's clearly not referring to it by name (こっちの言葉).

I appreciate the feedback but I'm generally going to ignore any of it that boils down to "your script doesn't match the Japanese closely enough."

EDIT: To elaborate, that level of imprecision is pretty common in every anime script, so in order for me to care about it, it has to be paired with a reason why it matters. Like, why does it matter that he said "Human" instead of "the local language," since they mean the same thing in context and the former is just a less awkward way of expressing it. I want to stamp out imprecision when it affects the meaning of the line, but otherwise I don't care.
