I only watched the "Sekka no Chikai" movie. Will I be missing any vital context if I watch it now?

A LOT. You need to watch all the TV shows (OVAs and specials not needed) or else you'll be utterly lost. Would be like watching Rebellion or End of Eva without watching the respective TV shows. Or like getting into Bleach with the Blood War anime that's coming

Oath Under Snow was prequel to the 4 season TV show and this is set directly after the 4th season. You shouldn’t watch it now before watching the rest.

I watched it today and subs are good

Unfortunately, the movie ends with a cliffhanger. I hope we get the sequel soon (i hope it is TV series and not another movie)
