why re-encode a web source? was it required for fx or what?

Funimation and Amazon weren't good sources. The encode is dehardsubbed and filtered wakanim. It's the best encode for this show.
Also, all of the sources the show has needs to be encoded and filtered anyway because of how the studio processed the show. They descaled to a lower resolution (like 405p) and upscaled it back to 1080 resulting in a terrible video.

I thought this was dropped. Based and tornpilled.

Good to know, I guess the downscale is what gives this show that unique look, though it does make the video quality suffer, now that I think about it the same happened with the first season, now it makes sense why it looked weird to me. Thanks for the release.

the studio who made this usually makes their anime at 810p, but for "effect" they decided to cut that in half so 405p

No one uploaded the BDMVs, so it looks like there won't be a BD batch for a while.
There might be some more minor revisions done if additional errors are found, but this is it for now.
Regardless if more are found or not, another batch torrent with the patched episodes will be uploaded later.

It's a shame, too. At the time I was looking forward to using an ESRGAN upscale from SD together with blurry downscales and upscales to specifically tarfet the aliasing (which is similar to what was done eps 5 onwards). I just didn't think it was sensible to do so for a WEB release that would ultimately be replaced by BDs. For reference, this is a comp of the fully filtered image (double descale, AA, merging with different scalers to retain artistic intent) and just descaling twice and then doubling with ESRGAN (and then Bicubic Catrom): link. (the shift and colour change is an artefact of workings of cupscale and wouln't apply to a VS-filtered clip, so pay that no mind)

ESRGAN would have made it possible to remove some of the pesky aliasing the current filtering couldnt remove without risking that the entire image was nuked (e.g. part of Joe's clothes in this image), but nobody uploaded the boxset. There's other stuff I would change too, looking back, but outside of the first four eps those are comparatively minor.
