the problem is the BDs don't really look better than the DVDs. i mean they do of course in some ways, but they also have the usual QTEC "filtering" which looks worse.

Not even any type of editing let alone mastering or bluray authoring. I would have remembered if that was the case.

Though I do agree BDs look shit due to the horrible upsale algorithm. Its not completely unsalvageable though. HalfOrange release of first movie was pretty decent.

Though I do agree qTec is shit and should not exist. They still do stupid fuckery. They were responsible for the upscaling and HDR conversion of the 4K BD for Violet Evergarden Movie.

The HDR color grading and upconversion for the Dolby Cinema release of this movie were handled by Q-TEC, and the ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146 was used for simulation grading and director checks.
