Audio Info:

  1. Clannad After Story [S02] Does not have 5.1 USBD audio due to the fact that the 5.1 USBD audio is mixed so poorly its almost impossible to fix it while retaining your sanity. It goes from synced to un-synced randomly in a very reoccurring fashion. The 2.0 Audio on the R1US Clannad Afterstory DVDs did not have this mixing issue and was used instead, But it did still require many tweaks to sync.

  2. Clannad [S01] has 5.1 USBD audio and does not have the same mixing issues that S02 has.

  3. Clannad After Story's 2.0 audio was sourced from the R1 DVDs and was synced by ergiman at my request. Thanks to him for helping me out.

Subtitles Info:

  1. The subtitles were sourced from ShadyCrabs release but was modified by me. The only modification I did was remove the added Kanji as I and the person I made this for are not a fan of added kanji in subs. Feel free to mux back in the original subs instead if you want the added Kanji back.

Thanks everyone.

@non_aggressive1

I didnt see Akai subs to compare. But I'm pretty happy with how these look.

Hi, thanks for the release! Was the OG audio from the BDs DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHD or a similar codec? I say so because multichannel FLAC cannot be played back digitally in case you use HDMI/TosLink/coaxial cable from your source to your speakers/AV receiver. Only those who have 5.1 analog setups that use the three 3.5mm jack cables (regularly green, yellow, black) might benefit from 5.1 FLAC audio, but not even then, because typically those speaker setups are low quality and don't even have tweeters, therefore flac and 96 kbps AAC sound pretty much the same. Nowadays, many people bitstream audio via HDMI from their graphics cards to their speaker setup and the only compatible formats when bitstreaming audio digitally are Dolby, DTS and their derivatives. I would really appreciate it if you could use those codecs in future releases!! Big fan of your work.

@Chaarrrt

Yeah I understand what you mean, I personally use plex from my nuc to my receiver and have it transcode multichannel flac to LPCM so I can take advantage of the space savings of FLAC and still get digitally played lossless audio. My plex server is beefy so transcoding it on the fly is insanely fast and doesnt delay anything. Funnily enough my receiver (sony STR-DN1080) does support 5.1 flac but only in network/usb mode... Kinda lame.

While I appreciate and understand your request I wont be releasing my work in anything other than FLAC unless there is no lossless space savings to be had, sorry about that.

Almost forgot to answer your source question.

S1

English 5.1 DTS-HD Audio = USBD

JP 5.1 LPCM Audio = JPBD

S2 =

English 2.0 AC3 Audio = R1US DVDs

JP 5.1 LPCM Audio = JPBD

Also worth mentioning clannad is fake 5.1 from a 2.0 source. I honestly should of just used the 2.0 audio but didnt feel like finding the JP DVDs and didnt know if the JP DVDs had lossless audio.

PS. Unrelated to Chaarrrt's comment but also wanted to mention to anyone out there wondering, We could not use delaycut on the ac3 2.0 audio, it required cuts under 32 ms and delaycut w/ ac3 does not support that.

@non_aggressive1

Thanks but I am fine with these subs, But im sure someone else might appreciate them so thanks for posting it.

@non_aggressive1 Thanks for the subs but you should know that Akai's sub timing is all over the place. Some episodes such as ep 4 is entirely off once the OP starts due to a bad de-ordered chaptering job. Everything should be re-synced and checked again. Akai is also missing some fonts that were present in CGi, such as the Kyou Chapter episode when the karaoke begins at the end of the episode.

I generally prefer Coalgirls' subs for Clannad but taking it from Akai needs a lot of work done. ShadyCrab / joseole99i's edited Doki subs also have a lot of TS work that is completely missing in CGi / Akai. The ideal would be combining the best of both and going over added TS for improvement. I would also skip Tsundere's TS since a lot of it looks worse, with a poor font and little blending imo.

@Mabby

Thanks for the info, if someone ever does come out with updated subs that fix these issues post it here if you can please. I'd love to do a re-upload with improved subs if someone takes the time to do them. Thanks

@Mabby Yeah, I noticed that a while ago.The up-loader DamonElix was going to combine akai with the better ts and release that, but he deleted all his uploads and discord, so guess that's dead. The Doki subs are serviceable until someone does extensive work on the subs; they all SS-eclipse based anyway.
