Description

This is my attempted translation for Shirobako movie. I used a base script so that I did not need to worry about timings and other things. The base I used was from nekomoekissaten (https://nyaa.si/view/1324089).

Enjoy and happy Easter

Edit: For matching the subtitles with the Ohys-Raws video, delay the subtitles by -1000ms

thanks, buth the nekomoekissaten file there has hardsubs. is there any other that matches the timing?

edit: seems like at -700ms it works fine with the ohys release

@SROFrancis I see small differences that others might think otherwise. Roro (as in Roro & Mimuji) is spelled right but Miyamori is spelled Nyaamori rather than Myaamori, and no sentence has a period at the end. Serviceable? Honestly, I don't know.

One example: "Bansaku tsukita!" by Honda, is translated "All is lost" in this post (with no punctuation mark). The other (#1358907) says "I'm at my wit's end." I remember the official TV-series subs say "I'm out of ideas!" It's a rap as expected from Honda and I would use "I'm out of ideas!" to make it coherent with the official subs. Relying on MTL, a famous line like this can be all lost in translation.

Are these good enough for somebody to QC and correct typesetting and such? It's high time the movie has proper English subs after four months of release.

Is this an original Japanese -> English translation, Chinese -> English translation, or edit of the Mushin abomination?

Edit: It looks somewhat better than the Mushin release with regards to some of the errors I noticed, but I suspect this is probably Chinese -> English.

The tell-tale giveaway is the use of "waltz" instead of "rondo" in the line "Canned Mackerel and the sad waltz". The word "rondo" is presented on screen in big katakana letters and has the same pronunciation/meaning in both Japanese and English. There is no reason to switch it out for something else, nor is waltz an equivalent substitution for rondo.

Edit 2: You can't QC and correct a 2nd hand translation without doing your own translation and rewriting every single line. Don't even try. You have no idea what's right and what's wrong.

Overall I'd say there is a lack of brevity to the sub script that leaves me falling behind the subs. The decisions regarding sentence structure and word choice turn dialogue with a comfortable pace into Akiyuki Shinbo. The lack of punctuation and overall translation has me in despair n' stuff.
