What makes SnK popular is that it's illiberal, why it isn't palatable to the type who would write on sites like polygon. Of course, one can't help but wonder if national liberation is being boogieman'ed a bit here, with the struggle of Eldians - especially ones living in Marley - on its grounds a completely justified one. The cause for Eldians to have their own nation and not be subject to internment and apartheid practices is as just a cause as any. And yet, Eren's "national liberation" is only for those on Paradis, as his plan condemns literally all the rest of humanity to utter destruction. That would be like an island of African Americans deciding, and being able to, nuke the entire rest of the world in the name of Black Liberation. Aka something that would never happen. The struggles for national liberation are in their bases wholly justified, but Eren's approach offers absolutely nothing for national liberation. It's more a frenzied madness to tear down a world that no longer makes sense to him. Marley is an imperialist oppressor - and of course, the actual mystical history of Eldia and Ymir significantly muddies the waters. For the Eldians were themselves once wholly dominant and oppressive themselves to an almost absurd degree.

This is actually what the show critiques, explicitly in Bertolt: the mythology is fabricated only to justify what is already necessary. Were Eldians really like that? Were Jews really like that? It doesn't matter and even if it were true, its purpose, without any sincere dedication to what is correct, hasn't changed. Lacan famously makes an example of the pathologically jealous husband: even if his wife really was sleeping with other men, he was still pathologically jealous.

This makes me skeptical of his supposed WMD. Until we see it on-screen we don't know that xXTH3_RUMNL1NGXx really turns the world over because that could just be another "boogieman;" SnK is a critique of ideology, the "boogiemanning" happens in-universe. Rather than an unreliable narrator we have characters confined by ideology /which makes them realistic/.
