Why does the old encode look better than the new one
I did the encode for the 720p version back then. The 1080p is his own encode. I thought he replaced them for better quality.
The old 720p encodes are sharper, but they may have descale artifacts.
Has anyone compared it to Beatrice's 1080p encode or should I do it?
do one with the old encode reupscaled with bicubic b=0 c=1 to match the descale settings, then ppl can decide whether the descale artifacts outweigh the sharpness and decide for themselves
Not that simple, since who knows what DescaleM-type masks were used.
