nice job. definitely an improvement over ank-raws. wonder how it compares with sergey_krs'. cheers

I'm still quite new to making my own releases. @Yukino tell me what you think on You-sei Raws vs sergey_krs. I made you some screenshots to use. I'm interested on what you think is better. Anyone else's opinion is also very appreciated.

If people prefer sergey_krs over You-sei, I can make a v2. The timings of sergey and Yousei seem to be the same, so it would be an easy remux since all the re-timing work is already done now.

So it looks like sergey_krs is a clear winner. Check:

  • 00:29 some banding on the signs (train station signs i think)
  • 00:51 that whole scene is horrid on yousei and all the other sources i checked.
  • color is a bit off as well. check 03:25 (the guy's messenger bag strap and the building on the left). a bit more red and it's the same for the other sources as well.

I went ahead and started seeding sergey_krs' here on nyaa and it's in U2 if you have access. Like you said the timing's are the same so it should be just a remux. Let me know if you're going to do it. Cheers.

Okay thanks for the detailed info! I will definitely check out those timestamps so I can get a better understanding of how to do comparisons like that myself. I will do a remux and upload it to nyaa. Though, it's late now so that will be probably tomorrow. I'll download sergey's release from either nyaa or IRC, I haven't been on U2 before but I'll make sure to check it out.

Oh wow I've looked at those timestamps and you're right, sergey definitely is a clear winner here. I see how the colour of the strap is definitely better on sergey's, but if you only had seen the colour difference only on the building (slightly more red), how could you decide which is better?

I use Hexchat as my IRC client, I'm mostly on the Xertion server, a lot of high-quality anime can be find on MoodKiller & Co's packlist. Sometimes I just get my stuff on bakabt, though it's difficult to get anything seeded there, all the torrents are over-seeded so I mainly just take freeleech torrents or try to get it somewhere else.

You start noticing when you compare and when you add the building (which buildings are grey, not reddish grey), the strap, and the light on the top right, then you can decide what is better, or at least the intended color. So yeah if we only had one source to go by then we would be none the wiser and just have to accept what we have (deliberately changing the colors to suit someone's taste is a big no-no). However artifacts, banding, distortion, or bad attempts at denoising are pretty obvious even without another source. I'm sure others have their own methods and have trained their eyes well, but I put my monitor brightness all the way up and start looking at the darker colors/scenes first. They are a dead giveaway.
And MoodKiller & Co’s packlist is amazing. I use nibl.co.uk as well
