This is a decent attempt but I suggest going back and testing the encoding again. There is A LOT of blocking which imo makes this unbearable to look at. I feel like you should try and strive for around 700-800 mb per episode. There will be compression in that file size but it will be far more watchable. Doing 300-500 mb encodes of a Blu-Ray is going to leave the video quality basically ruined imo

Thanks for the feedback. With regards to the compression, remember that the Blu-Rays didn't have that much detail to start with anyway (this was a 1989 anime 'remastered' after all). I've attached the original version of the Gohan screenshot for you to compare, you should see that they are actually quite similar. If anything, the original has more grain (TL;DR - the artefacts are also present in the original Blu-ray and not caused by the encoding I did).

They removed the grain, but added artificial grain. FUNimation is a lost cause like many Dragon Ball fans.

It's a remaster regardless of how shitty it is. A "remaster" is what Selecta Visión (the FUNimation of Spain) did to Dragon Ball, an upscale.

Oh I did not read your comment till this morning. The dragon ball series IS hd. All TV episodes through GT were shot on 16mm film which has roughly the same amount of detail as 1080p give or take a little bit. Funimation's "remasters" are ungodly abominations and look worse then their old DVD singles.

The anniversary remasters aren't perfect, they're over-saturated and they had artificial grain added to them after having originally been degrained which is the most asinine thing, but they still look crisp as fuck and way better than the original DVD singles FUNImation put out.

@ Bodhi i agree they look crisp af, but i really wanted to like them, it looks to me like the backgrounds rippling, kinda unsettling
