Sentai's translation for this show was bad, but one of the first projects I did with Unbased was Hakumei to Mikochi, which was even worse, so we're used to it. That said, hopefully we'll be able to switch to OTL next week. Thank you for watching.

xysubfilter doesn't need madvr as far as I know, I'm pretty sure I have the former but not the latter.

I have to google how to install xysubfilter every time I want to do it, so all I can say is "google it."

i don't see how it's dead when it works. it's not like there's huge bugs that no one is fixing. same with vsfilter. it's kinda funny to see people say that when libass is barely developed anymore either.

it does. xy-vsfilter doesn't, but xy-vsfilter is lacking some features xysubfilter has. also, i can't think of any reason to not want madvr anyway. it's insanely useful.

I use xySubFilter on MPC-HC without madVR. madVR isn't required to use it.

Also, just tested the internal sub renderer of MPC-HC with this release and there weren't any issues in dialogue or the Opening. Nothing too obvious at least from my limited testing

the internal subtitle renderer is actually decent these days. you have to try pretty hard to lag/break it. it used to be really bad for a long time, though, so people don't recommend it.

You guys didn’t use the Amazon video?

We used what was basically a higher-bitrate version of the Amazon video to encode from.

Not too well-informed in all this but as far as I read a while ago xysubfilter was developed with madVR in mind and it did require it, but idk how much it's been updated maybe it's not a requirement anymore? (currenly a normie using PotPlayer)

It's not TBS, it's Sentai to blame. That's why Hidive & VRV (Hidive) are the only good looking non-japanese streaming services. So the best video option so far is VRV (Hidive). For audio AoD and Amazon should be fine. No idea why none of the better audio options are used here.

It's pretty obv that Sentai is using a different master for itself (which is why it doesn't look that shit) and giving out worse ones to the other services. What else would explain why CR and AoD have a Sentai outro at the end. I highly doubt that TBS is adding it or the services itself. Sentai is responsible for the world wide (excluding Japan and maybe some other Asian countries) distribution. Other new TBS shows are actually watchable on Crunchyroll if it's not a sublicence from Sentai afaik.

Also, this encode is based on VRV (Hidive). The only difference to Hidive are the better encoding settings (same settings as Crunchyroll). VRV (Crunchyroll) and Crunchyroll are the same encodes. I don't know why two videos exist on VRV, but that's the case for shows on both services. AoD has the same problems as Crunchyroll, just with banding removed due to filtering. No idea about ADN, probably the same problems as Crunchyroll as well.

Any particular reason you used Sentai as a base and not LiterallyWho? It wasn't a translation taken from an LN, it was the LN translator (Spyro/Kyakka, who fan translated volumes 5, 6, 7, 7.5, 8, 9, 10, and 14) doing an original translation for the episode. By all accounts I've read it was far better than Sentai.

Not that it matters much, since it seems Spyro is dropping the show so you'll have to work with Sentai's script the rest of the season anyway (assuming you don't drop it), I was just curious.

herkz there nothing to be developed in libass in the first place, ASS specification is already fixed and vsfilter didn't even work with ASS specification correctly and libass need to workaround these quirks form i recommend libass because it's cross-platform not every here use windows or even PC

i have personally found multiple bugs from fansubbing in the past year that are 100% wrong and not just "doesn't match vsfilter behavior" or whatever bullshit excuse you wanna come up with. they did eventually get fixed, at least.

and no one have time to waste to improve subtitles rendering without breaking compatibility with old file thanks to useless ASS specification there some different in rendering between vsfilter fork and even between versions in same fork

Is the script altered? I assume it is, but you've only listed "TL: Sentai", without mention of changing it, just that the script is a mess

The script is heavily edited using the Sentai translation as a base. The translation was checked by unbased twice, once before editing and once more after.

This is gonna be my first seasonal Anime. Usually I will wait for BD for this one, but I can't wait this time around :)

Ahhhh I found this strange website thanks to Reddit but I have no idea how to watch the episode. I downloaded MPV and now have the .exe file, and I also downloaded the episode's torrent, but dropping the torrent into an mpv.exe window just makes mpv close and nothing happens. Do I need to download even more sketchy things just to watch the "better" translation? I'm so lost here. How do i convert the torrent into something playable? 7Zip doesnt seem to work.

Actually, don't do that, since the search results seem to be infested with nasty VPN product placement. You need a torrent client to use the torrent files with. Deluge is an option.

As motbob said, you need a torrent client. Deluge is great, other good options are Transmission or qBitTorrent. Once installed the client will automatically recognize torrent files when you click them and begin downlading the proper file into your computer. Just click the magnet link at the top of the page.
