Higurashi Kagome is a slighly average 15 year old girl. She lives at the Higurashi shrine with her family. While wondering around the old well of the shrine, she accidently falls in it and comes out in feudal Japan. Turns out she is the reincarnation of a famous priestess: Kikyo. Not only that, but inside her is the powerfull Shikkon Jewel. One the jewel exits her body after being attacked by monsters seeking it, she has no choice but the release Kykyo's old foe: Inuyasha. But while Inuyasha is rude, brash and very impulsive, he hardly seems evil. At least not evil enough to seal off in the first place. What happened between Inuyasha and Kikyo? And what will happen now? By accident the Shikkon Jewel is shattered into hundreds of pieces, each dangerous on its own. Kagome and Inuysaha have to travel together and find all the shards while uncovering the plot that got Kikyo killed and Inuyasha sealed.

Oh man, nostalgia central. One of my first long running anime. I love it to pieces, but I can admit it has some serious problems, mostly in charatcer growth and pacing. But I sill adore it. The animation is pretty damn good, the charatcers memorable and the fight exciting. Naraku is one of the biggest pieces of shit in anime histroy, while Sesshomaru is one of the coolest anti-heros ever put to film. I hope you enjoy this as mush as I do. Don't forget to also watch the 4 movies and the final season (get Rizel). Also, since this is a huge show, let me know if you find any errors.

Since this release is a bit unusual, I added this FAQ.
Q: What the hell is up with the size? 154GB? Why is it this big?
A: Because the show is very grainy, had a good ammount of action and at least half the action happens at night. Any less and I beleive the quality would have suffered. You can't tell me this doesn't look good.

Q: OK, but why only the first 98 episodes are 1.5GB each? What about the quality of the rest of the episodes?
A: Well, the things is the first 98 episodes look much better. I think they were produced on film. Starting with episode 99 I think they went digital. There's no more grain, and the colors are a bit washed out. Obviously, that compresses far better. Basically, blame Sunrise.

Q: This show is 4:3. Why the hell didn't you crop it? Why did you leave the black bars?
A: Two reasons. First off, it doesn't matter to the player. Unless you are using a 4:3 monitor the player will add black bars by itself. But more importantly, cropping the video loses me 1 pixel of animation on each side. That might not sound like much to you, but to me it is unacceptable.

Q: I'm looking at the episode titles I see some things I don't recognize. What the hell is the "Exploding Dragon Wave"?
A: I hated the way the English subs named some the techniques, but I also don't want to leave them in Japanese. So I changed them:

  • Soul-shattering Iron Claws -> Iron Claws (too long)
  • Blades of Blood -> Blades of Blood (this one fit)
  • Tetsusaiga -> Tessaiga
  • Backlash Wave -> Exploding Dragon Wave (How the fuck would Inuyasha even know what backlash is?)
  • Adamant Barrage -> Adamant Barrage (I was going to change this to Diamond Spear Blast, but they didn't know what diamonds were in feudal Japan)

Q: Why the hell doesn't the first OP have the song?
A: Licesing issues. And it's not just the 1st OP. The 5th OP and the 8th ending, as well as one insert song are missing. Why? Because Johhny's are pieces of shit that nobody outside of Japan wants to deal with. Well, Japan doesn't either, but they have no choice. Don't worry though. All the OP and ED are in the Extras folder, clean versions.

Q: What is the OVA you have here? I've never heard of that one.
A: The OVA is actually an extended cut of episode 15 of the final act anime. It's about 2 minutes longer then the actual episode so I thought I should include it.

Q: What's the source of this anyway?
A: Spanish blurays. Subs are from the US DVD version, ripped from the RUELL-Next DVD release. The US will have its own BD starting in July 2020. I don't think the video quality will be any better, but I'm hoping they redo the subtitles. The ones from the DVDs aren't great. They're decent, but not great.

My bad, it's supposed to come out this month, first 25% of the show. Next 25% in August. The rest? Who knows. Might have saved me a lot of pain if I had just waited for those subs, but I started this a long time ago. Also... yeah, it looks MUCH better then Fullmetal's release.

I don't know what subs a-S used. If it's the same DVD subs, then they'd be the same except for the changed attack names. And yeah, you can do whatever you want with them.

The [a-S] subs are what is included in [Fullmetal]'s release, though style stripped by the person who retimed them to the Spanish BDs on subscene.I've noticed that they have some issues with spacing where words sometimes don't have spaces in between.

The first US BD set including episodes 1-27 just came out, and surprisingly they all feature "Change the World" as the opening theme. Either Viz is better at negotiating than Selecta Visión or Johnny's has become easier to negotiate with now that its founder/head pedophile is dead. Or maybe Viz just threw more money at them.

That depends on when the president died. I think these deals are made way in advance of the release. Still, this IS a surprise. I did not expect the BD release to have the missing songs. I'm pretty sure nobody did. The people on the Viz forums were quite sad about them. Say, did they happen to improve the subs?

Nope. Apparently you cannot crop by just 1 pixel, you need a multiple of 2 to crop. So if you have a black border of 43 pixels, you wither crop by 42 and leave 1, or crop by 44 and lose one. The first one is pointless and the second one is unacceptable to me. Maybe there IS a way to do it, but I don't know it. But even if there was a way, I still don't see a point. You're going to see black borders anyway.

I'm fine with not accepting the second option, but why do you consider the first one pointless? for instance, I like to sometimes watch stuff windowed, so that I can use my screen space for other things I do at the same time. having the unnecessary black bars hurts that. and conversely, I don't see any reason not to do it.

petzkuh, I'm in the "either do it completely or don't do it at all" group. If I can't crop all of it I'm not going to bother. I'm sorry, but all I care about is watching stuff full-screen. I have no idea what someone who multi-tasks needs/wants, and to be completely honest, I don't care.

All colors are just soo wrong in the BD and all dark scene are so shiny, is just not fit for some old anime like this one!

No, no. Surprisingly, the US version has the songs intact. At least the 1st OP, since only that part is out. I was shocked as well. Guess the pedo pres in Johnny being on death's door softened them out.

As for the Mikami SD BD, hell no. The video quality is far too shit for me to bother with it. And to time audio from that to the DVD rip is far too much work for me.

Uhm, no offense nosebleeds, but comparing screenshot at different, especially if some are uncropped, is pointless.
It's even more pointless to compare scaled screenshots.

Because it will be very hard for most people to see the differences when the frames are so different in size and position.

I do mostly agree what that, I think, or at least hope that the people who actually look at comparisons know to look past those issues. On a 1440p monitor with slowpics different crops don't really matter though as 1080p images at different crops can still be displayed at the same positioning at 100% scale.

Apparently the US blu ray that just came out has the opening and ending songs intact.

I was shocked. Just so you know, the US version only has 27 episodes out so far. So it will be a long time before the entire series is available like that. Don't worry though. I'll put out a new torrent when it's all out in 22 years.

If you use Virtualdub you can crop at odd numbers right where the break is and then resize it to whatever size you want. Also the one little line that it covers was there in the old days to account for screen size and for most part was cut out anyways!! Dunno what you used to encode, but yeah if you got someone elses raws its hell to re-encode. I tried this version in Virtualdub and it crapped out. And in avidemux I couldn't figure out how to do it either. so no BFD

I hope someone can upload the extra features from viz edition. I would LOVE to watch the interviews with the producers of the show.

I find it very silly that you're happy to use 720p only even for shows that are native 1080p. But losing one pixel on the sides of a 4:3 video in order to save a huge amount of space, and make the videos actually watchable for people using portrait 16:9, or 16:10, or other resolutions is unacceptable.

@JohnDoeOfNyaa What do you mean by 'Anime without Filler'? Filesizes are quite small compared with DmonHiro's.

For anyone not happy with DmonHiro's creative technique name changes:

Use sed -i 's/Exploding Dragon/Backlash/g' path/to/\[DmonHiro\]\ Inuyasha\ \(BD\,\ 720p\)/*.ass (from Linux, Mac, or WSL - Windows subsystem for Linux) to rename all occurrences of 'Exploding Dragon Wave' to 'Backlash Wave'. Trust me, when you watch with others who know Inuyasha and the names from before, you prevent a lot of whining "But it is called 'Backlash Wave'!" everytime the technique is used. And that's 39 times. You can count it with grep -Fnr Exploding path/to/\[DmonHiro\]\ Inuyasha\ \(BD\,\ 720p\)/*.ass | wc -l before the change. That's what I used to make sure that the lines and linebreaks are still proper. Enjoy!

PS: You need to replace path/to with your own path to the directory, obviously.

I'm trying to watch these on my TV (lg 55c9 ) but I get an error saying that the file type isn't recognized ... But they're mkv ...
I can watch them on the PC, but ... it's not the same. Anyone experienced anything like this? Any workarounds?

(initially I've put on the external hdd all the files - including .ass corespondent for each episode => NOK ; then i've put just the mkv files => NOK )

@ptkptk this is not going to play on your TV because it's 10-bit. You'll need to setup a plex server or get an Nvidia shield that will play it natively.

Amazing work, thanks for this @DmonHiro. And thanks for keeping both this and the newer US version available. I prefer this/Spanish version, both for the colours, and your much clearer font ASS subtitles. The US PGS subtitles look too small/squashed for my tastes.
