hory shitto

edit: also would like to add that the LN translation for all three volumes of Baekmonogatari by Vertical is done by Ko Ransom! He did a fantastic job.

Is it better than ANE's TLs?

I liked the LNs, but I think editing eps 13-15 is going to be very difficult because of the LN script.

this is your local govna here to remind you ANE didn't make the subs everyone uses the exact same base since it's the only base available

The character commentary if it's the one that's circulating from other releases come off the official retail version.
Perhaps might be by the same guy Jin-kun mentioned.

ane uses gg

coalgirls uses modifed koharubi (unsure the extent of the modifications, but it's CGi so i doubt it's a significant improvement)

ane/cgi both use pem for 14-15

zangafan uses modified ane and coalgirls

the only bd release i'm aware of that uses aniplex's subs for the main series is RH

the commentary subs are aniplex's, and are the only subs available for bake commentary

the commentary subs are aniplex’s

They are? Where can I find an OCR'd version of aniplex's commentary subs?

Today's emotion is tentative wonderment. A bit like when UTW started on Nise. I hope I didn't jinx your flow with that reference, because these are very nice indeed. Thank you.

Finally a good english release for this show. I cannot help with the typeset but I might have something useful for you, I’ll try to reach you on IRC sooner or later.

I wouldn't even credit Aniplex for the commentary if I were you, I've had to rewrite and retime every single line.

Also, Bake BDs have the original 4-koma styled TV versions of the preview quizzes as specials, there are some barebones subs for them and they're 15 sec each, you should do them for completion's sake.

This dude didn't really made his own subs, he just edited others.

Mawen is smaller and about the same quality, with plenty of good AA/deband. However, feel free to make screenshot comparisons that show Beatrice's higher filesize is worth it.

Broadly speaking, ANE debanded heavily (for good reason) and therefore lost detail. Mawen is more like Beatrice when it comes to the level of deband.

Looks like Beatrice did some rescaling (?) that caused sharpening but also ringing.

Mawen handled the aliasing and banding more thoroughly.

Comparison 5 is the sort of scene where detail would get completely wiped out if you weren't careful with debanding, and it looks like neither release has much less detail than the other.

So mawen looks like a fine choice for the smaller filesize, or even putting that aside.

Beatrice:

  • Better grain retention
  • Increased clarity from rescaling
  • More detail
  • A bit more banding leftover
  • Larger filesize

Mawen:

  • Much less grain
  • Softer due to a lack of rescaling
  • Less detail
  • Less banding leftover
  • Smaller filesize

If you overlook the filesize, the choice should be obvious imo.

Treating releases more favorably because they have some degree of increased sharpening means heading down a very dangerous road.

Anyone is free to slap my subs onto Beatrice video and release it if they feel strongly enough about the difference in image quality.

Treating releases more favorably because they have some degree of increased sharpening means heading down a very dangerous road.

Of course, but the increased sharpness in beatrice's encode is not only subtle but was also from rescaling so theres really no issue there.

Thanks for the amazing release, hope you guys find time to do some more for Bake. Gods knows it needs it.
