VCB-Studio does video encodes straight from a BD source. Just because you see HEVC/x265 doesn't mean it's automatically a re-encode.

If you take an uncompressed bluray source stream or any other raw (as in original) and make it smaller or make any other changes that meets the definition of "re-encoding". So yes this-and 95% of what is uploaded on this site are all "re-encodes" by definition.

@zrdb re-encodes are, just like the name states, encodes of an already encoded version, but when you encode something straight from a lossless source such as the original BD files, that is just called encodes.

Sorry-you're wrong. What you don't take into account is that the so called raws are themselves encodes so if you modify the original say-m2ts files you are re-encoding the source encodes.

When people who know literally nothing about encoding try to explain to encoders what encoding is.

I do know about reencoding which is precisely why I don't do it. Why is it that anime uploaders think that what they do is a fine art? It isn't-it's just some ideal of perfection that they have in their minds that they can "make it look better than the original source material". Sorry people-I can remember the shitty xvid encodes when size was the most important consideration because of very limited hdd capacity and super slow dl speeds. All I'm saying is that reencoding is not necessary unless you happen to be a video snob. I like raw m2ts files straight off the disc-caveat emptor everybody.

Guys, I am an actual brainlet. Can someone explain if there actually is a fidelity difference between an uncompressed raw vs a re-encode? Like. Is it noticeable for an anime with very few action scenes? Like, a Marvel movie probably isn't the same as a romance anime? Please, I'm actually a idiot. Someone tell me so that I can be a smarter idiot! I feel so insignificant!

Video is always encoded somehow. Even on the BD itself just not very efficiently spacewise.
