Thank you.
@Neoborn : No problem, hope you'll like it ! ;)
Great that (ALAC0
@naiyas : I only encoded the video, the audio was passthrough so it's the same as the source I used ;)
Track 1 (English) is AAC as I believe it's been taken from a web release.
Track 2 (Japanese) is ALAC so I think it's the BD one.
Hope it helps and hope you'll like it :)
Casual anime-watcher here. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Is x265 a much "better" graphics encoding than x264 in terms of results? I don't really know how these encoding stuff works but from what I can understand an x264 encoded anime seems to look less sharper in definition than an x265 encoding of the same episode. Is this correct? Because I just downloaded a batch of Tsugumomo but that says x264 and I was wondering if I should get this one as a replacement.
difference between x264 and x265 isn’t as big as say avc(x264) and xvid. x265 is the current buzzword since latest tech which many hardware can easily encode in. AV1 will be next buzzword when people can easily encode in that tech. just download, see if you like what you see and keep what you like.
Great Minifreeza
@Kamikaze00007 :
Always prefer x264 over the encoded x265 version of that same video, if you're looking for quality and don't care much about file size.
x265 is a good compression codec, but as the sources are all x264, as long as there's an encode there's a loss in the quality.
It can be minimal or be awful.. depending on the one encoding and its settings.
So no, x265 is not better, it's always worse than the source it's been encoded from : like doing a copy of a copy of a copy, losing quality every run.
Here's a comparison of the source vs the encode (episode 1 sample): https://slow.pics/c/jgsYUH7H
It's minimal cause I didn't over compress it, but there will always be losses in an encode... the only "good" is the savings on the size in x265.
@sameer : Agreed, AV1 will be the next "big" codec for compression. But as I stated, even encoding x264 > av1, there'll be loss in the quality.
@Minifreeza @sameer: Thank you for the easy to understand explanations! Now I understand.
