Well, considering that it's neither English nor Japanese, it's a grey area.
I personally feel that it's a significant catchphrase, and that changing it to "Yo, 'Sup!" causes it to lose value, as "Yo, 'Sup" is a much more common phrase than "Yahallo!" is.

yes, it's said more, mostly because "Yahallo" has probably never been uttered by a fluent english speaker

has it been uttered by a fluent japanese speaker prior to this series? it only has meaning due to the context in which it is used, not because it makes sense in any language. unless there's a japanese pun I'm missing.

if there's a trend where we suddenly start saying "mluppu" to mean friend and you just translate that to another language's word for friend, you miss the point that it's the current batch of 16-year-old's meaningless garbage slang.
