Description

Thanks to iKaos, Romao, Team Mirolo, Pendekar, Volitank, Marin888, GTeam, Kaidubs, RickyHorror, ZetaRebel
This is a compilation of all the R2J Dragon Box DVD releases (1.5GB/episode) on Nyaa re-encoded to a 300~400MB/episode package using x264. Muxed with Japanese Broadcast Audio & R1 Funimation English Audio.
Grain Preservation:
- This was the most important & hardest. To preserve as much grain as possible, I did extensive tests with x264 using a bunch of different values of aq-strength,qcomp,psy-rd & finally settled on the following settings. These settings were the sweet spot between file size & grain preservation:
- aq-mode=3/aq-strength=0.65/qcomp=0.75/psy-rd=1.1,0.3/crf=22
- I'm happy with how it turned out. Ofc, 100% grain preservation is not possible. Especially not in a 300~400MB package. But I wanted to have the R2J experience in a small package. I'd rather have a 300MB episode with 90% grain than a 1.5GB episode with 100% grain. Hence, this project.
English Dub:
- There are a lot of english dubs out there. Personally I'm not a fan of the english dubs, so I only muxed the R1US Funimation Dub with Jpn score. But hey, if you want the other dubs, you can always go to iKaos's release.
Openings & Endings & NEPs:
- All OPs, EDs, NEPs are removed and OP-EDs are kept in seperate files. This might be a deal breaker for some, but it didn't make sense for this project to have them intact. The main episode file sizes are big as is (cuz of grains), on top of that if I kept the OP-EDs (which i skip most of the time anyway), the overall size would be 50GB higher.
Folder Structure:
- I arranged and numbered the folders according to Story Arcs. So if anyone wants to download/binge a particular story arc, they can do so.
- The movies take place in an alternate timeline, so they can be watched any time. But if I "HAD" to put them in the original timeline, in what order would I watch them? I numbered the movie folders as such. For example, "10.0" means the movie takes place 'during' the 10th story arc & "10.1" means it takes place 'after' the 10th story arc.
Dragon Ball (1986-1989):
- Video: x264 640x480 4:3 (R2J) [Source:Volitank's Dragon Box Release]
- Audio 1: Jpn AAC 128kbps (Dragon Box Audio) [Source:Same as video]
- Note: v2 of this torrent has Broadcast Audio. You can also get the audios separately from Here
- Audio 2: Eng AAC 128kbps (R1US with Japanese Score) [Source:Same as video]
- Subtitle: ASS (slightly edited) [Source:Marin888's Dragon Box Subs]
Dragon Ball Z (1989-1996):
- Video: x264 640x480 4:3 (R2J) [Source:Romao's Dragon Box Release]
- Note: Episode 24 has interlacing issue. So it's encoded from fixed version here.
- Audio 1: Jpn AAC 128kbps (Original Broadcast Audio) [Source:Team Mirolo's Audio Sync]
- Note: While I appreciate Team Mirolo's 'video sync', in some episodes it somewhat desyncs lip dialogue in an attempt to perfectly sync sound effects. So i went with 'audio sync'.
- Audio 2: Eng AAC 128kbps (R1US with Japanese score) [Source:iKaos's Dragon Box Syncs]
- Subtitle: ASS (slightly edited) [Source:Marin888's Dragon Box Subs]
Dragon Ball GT (1996-1997):
- Video: x264 640x480 4:3 (R2J) [Source:GTeam's Dragon Box Release]
- Audio 1: Jpn AAC 128kbps (Original Broadcast Audio) [Source:Same as video]
- Audio 2: Eng AAC 128kbps (R1US with Japanese score) [Source:Same as video]
- Subtitle: Subs by GTeam (Slightly edited by me) [Source:Same as video]
Movies:
DB Movies 1-4 & DBZ Movies 1-13
- Video: x264 854x480 16:9 (R2J) [Source: Pendekar's Dragon Box Release. DB & DBZ]
- Note: Initially I wanted to do the Toei Remasters (which a lot of us prefer), so i downloaded them. But then I saw how color-inaccurate they were. The hand drawn black borders were also smudged off. So I instead decided on the R2J releases, which has much more accurate colors. Besides, this is a R2J collection anyway. But hey, if you want the Toei remasters you can always find them here.

- Subtitle: RH (Slightly edited by me) [Source:Same as video]
OVAs & TV Specials (Subbed, No dub):
DB TV Special 1-2, DBZ TV Special 1-2, DBZ OVA 1
- Video: x264 640x480 4:3 (R2J) [Source:Volitank's DB & Romao's DBZ]
- Note: DBZ TV special 1 & 2 have higher quality remastered release by iKaos here, which also has dual audio. But I prefer the R2J release for its color accuracy.
- Audio 1: Jpn AAC 128kbps [Source:Same as video]
- Subtitle: ASS (slightly edited) [Source:Marin888's Dragon Box Subs]
DBZ OVA 2,3,4:
- Video: x264 1280x720 [Source: DBNL & GTeam]

Screenshot comparisons: Here
(Exact frame number comparison. Look closely to notice grain differences.)
Use mpv player for zero playback issue.
**Update: DBS Movie 16 Broly - English audio is 1s (1000ms) delayed. Jpn audio is ok. Kindly use either of the following two methods to fix Eng audio:
- In your video player, delay the audio = -1000ms (negative). [This is a temporary solution]
- Use MkvtoolnixGUI, select English track, put "-1000" (negative) in delay option. Start muxing. [This is a permanent solution]

Thank you
You lost me at "Dual Audio". At a collection this large, the extra audio track would be a large waste of space and bandwidth.
Thanks for your time and effort.
You should x265/HEVC to save more space.
Extracting the audio files would be a hassle but thanks for the collection, my drive with DBZ collection got corrupted recently and I needed this collection badly.
Looks decent for all of DB R2J media, or most of it.
This (https://nyaa.si/view/1156435) feels like it's been replaced by this better one now.
thank you
@Nisekoi1, I thought about doing x265. But my cpu isn't strong enough to handle it. It takes 2x-3x more time to encode. & the resulting file size isn't that much lower either, like only 5-10mb. Above all, i'm not familiar with the parameters of x265, like i am with x264.
@Tanteiouji, It wasn't hassle at all actually. Mkvextract batch module did all the work.
@D44, It's 19mb/file. Not that big actually. My younger brother likes the dub. So i thought "Why not? At least it'll be there." & it also gives this project a more "definitive" vibe.
Please help and seed it.
@2DSamurai Also, if possible, update it and add DRAGON BALL HEROES
Thanks in advance.
Someone that likes grain, I like it! Thank you for the hard work.
the encoding quality on this is insane, nice work dude!
Poor weeb .
Needs more grain.
@dragonballlover, Yeah i'm a "poor weeb" on a freakin Anime site. .....who would've thought.
@DodgyAussie, Of course it does. That's why the dvd sources exist. & That's why this is not for you.
"Needs more grain."
If unironic, that's the most retarded sentence I've ever read.
I downloaded the first episode of Z and noticed unlike what you said in the description, the opening/ending wasn't removed. what WAS gone was the next episode preview. is this the case for all episodes?
^ Dude, seriously? lol
Makes no sense for him to remove the NEPs. They're part of the experience, and if the viewer wants to skip, then skip it.
Thank you so much for this!
@Impakt @thepunisher
I kept the op-ed for the 1st episode, as i said in the description. & If you want to try out the encode quality, download eps3 or higher. The 1st two episodes are somewhat grainless in the source.
The NEPs are removed. Maybe i'm in the wrong, but i'm not sure how those are part of the experience, since the next eps is right there. It would've been a real hassle to remove OP-ED while keeping NEPs. Anyways, people will always find something to complain about. So, just get the source files instead of this. If a R2J project doesn't satisfy you, nothing will.

heres most of the oba for db originals were pulled from nyaa for some reason, was wondering why the seeding stopped
You could have used ordered to chapters to include the OP and ED in each episode without affecting file size.
@-___-
I thought about that at first. But you do know how ordered chapters work right? I'd have to copy & paste unique IDs of OPs and EDs to (153+291+104)=Total 548 chapter files AND rearrange the timecodes in 548 chapter files. Seems like a LIIIITTLE BIT of pain in the ass for something i skip anyways. .....ummm...yeah, no thanks.
well, when you wrote that the subs were styled i gave it a try to check them out. but i guess i have to keep the ones i have and finish the last 100 episodes.

@correvlr
If you're talking about OP-ED karaoke subs, then no, those are not styled like the ones in your images. Except for DBGT/DBS op-ed subs, they're styled (karaoke) like yours, but not by me, that's how they were in the source files.
As for DB & DBZ, by "styled by me" i meant the main episodes, not the OP-ED karaoke subs. I just changed Marin888's srt subs (as given in description) to styled ASS and muxed them, that's it.
Just to avoid confusion again, I'll change the subtitle description.
Oh...and I'm not sure what you meant by "finish last 100 episodes". Can you plz clarify? Are you talking about my encodes?
so close too finishing this torrent then ill seed. stuck at 92.8 percent with no seeds. had a look through the peer list seems alot of people are stuck at 92.8 percent.
english audio for DBS broly is behind. but other than that its a pretty good torrent for the size
@torrentguy Thanks for pointing that out. I've updated the description on how to fix it. (Wish i could change files in a torrent tho, so i could fix it myself)
@2DSamurai: there are several episodes of DB that has original broadcast audio.
@sangofe Yes, i know, as i said in description. But not all 153 eps have OBA. So, for consistency i went with dbox audio. It would've been weird for some eps to have OBA and some not, imo.
Please somebody post a direc tlink when possible.
@2DSamurai you planning to update it with DBS HEROES?
Thanks
@Englishsubtitles No, i don't plan on doing Heroes. Nyaa has lots of SDBH releases. No need to update it. I don't like SDBH anyway.
@2DSamurai please if possible PM a direct link to mirror it.
Thanks
Thanks
@2DSamurai can I somehow get the english audio tracks of this for DRAGON BALL and GT(Z not necessary ,coz iKaos is doing it) and subs maybe.I would want them all to cover openings and endings.want to put them into r2j remuxes that I've got.ready to pay.will understand if u cant sort me out.
@tomux123x I wish I could help you. But I already deleted the source files from my hdd. Now I only have the re-encoded files. I'm guessing you don't want the re-encoded audio, you want the source audio right? ..................I'd be happy to extract audio from these re-encoded files for you (these audios don't have op-ed). Let me know if you need them. If not, then sorry i couldn't be of any help.
@2DSamurai it's fine thank you.I will get them some other way.
@2DSamurai
Can a torrent be split into several new ones, one for each folder?
Otherwise, how can I download separate folders with tthe "Google Backend Compute Engine" ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-MvsHx1lME
Thanks in advance.
@2DSamurai! Thank you soo much for this upload. I've been digging and digging for the Original Funimation English Dub released by cartoon network which has BRUCE Faulconer's English Version. They cut the original down from 291 to 276 episodes! I grew up watching that version and I really am hoping to find it again. If this is that version or if there is a link to that version it would bring warmth to my childhood memories. Please help :)
@spiralish Go to iKaos's release. He is muxing all the available english dubs in existence to the R2J videos. Here's the link
So with the Dragon Ball Broadcast Audio being released, are you going to go back and add in that audio to the episodes?
@2DSamurai what subtitle font did you use for this? They look really great! Also... what did you use to edit/add in the subtitles..?
I'd love to see it updated (v2) with the latest Dragon Ball Broadcast audio torrents.
@2DSamurai I downloaded a few episodes from iKaos's Release and its an EXTREMELY good release, BUT, it STILL does not have faulconer's original Audio as aired with the original faulconer based Voice cast, the Ocean Dub music & background score seems to be is the right one where as the Voice Cast on the ocean dub seems to be different. I specifically downloaded episodes 55-57 and the Ocean Dub has the exact music and background score but krillin's and gohans and racoom's and GOKU's voice seem to be different. Please educate/correct me if I'm mistaken. I remember it like this,
It starts with the DBZ Opening Theme (Dragon Dragon Rock the Dragon Dragon Ball Z)
Toonami-Funimation-Cartoon Network-English DUB with Sean Schmmel(Goku) and Brian Drummond(Vegeta) For the First 2-3 Seasons, I remember Vegeta's Voice is taken over by Christopher Sabat's during the Frieza Saga/Arc if i'm not mistaken. (A small reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaKPlzTxzTI)
I remember a few other voice changes during this telecast, like Gohans and maybe Krillin's too. Its NOSTALGIA speaking, At first I thought it may be asking for much considering the amount of effort each uploader has put uploading all the various versions, But after a lot of reasearch it turns out there are many many many out there who are looking for this version that I have described above.
to be frank I dont even mind paying for it although I can't seem to find this specific version anymore, sadly I had it myself but lost it in damaged HDD. Hope something turns up.
Kindly let me know if anything is possible. And I humbly thank you for your past and present efforts in making this and several others im sure happen.
@2DSamurai, I think I may have been mistaken and the iKaos IS the version mentioned, well its the closest one yet anyway, It has a lot of mixed voice and background score, but this is pretty much it, I will RE-CONFIRM this after downloading the SAIYAN Saga/Arc and re-watch it, Thank you none the less :) Highly appreciated :D
@PNGCracked Font= Avenir Black. Edit tool= "Subtitle Edit" . Mux tool= "MkvToolnix"
Ah.... why is there no eps for the Beerus/Golden Freiza Saga in DBS.. I know one can watch the movies. But as a collection, it is needed :'(
@2D Samurai.. can you please please provide eps 1-27 for DBS in a separate torrent.. Will complete the collection :-)
Since this uses the Funimation Blu-Ray video for Super, what is the best release with English subs that uses the Japanese Blu-ray video? I know there’s not really much of a difference but I’m just curious
Great release, thanks for the effort, would there be a way to put the openings back into place ourselves with mkvtoolnix or something?
@ 2DSamurai are you on discord?
Really nice torrent. I don't really have a huge amount of space on my laptop so having Dragon Ball in a somewhat manageable file size per episode is a ood sent. Keep it up man!
It's nice to see an uploader on the same page as me for once. for me OP and ED unnecessary beyond the first time and are just forcefully skipped after that. Even though i like OPs in my personal experience i feel like they tend to spoil stuff for the story to come so sometimes i skip them even the first time because they can do everything from revealing the cast to the villain or even future battles yet to come. That statement goes double for NEPs why give yourself a summary for what's coming next episode when you could just experience it yourself firsthand by watching the next episode instead of getting a premature heads up. It feels good to see a quality upload like this one that takes drops these things.
(This is all my personal preference i completely understand different people like different things please don't feel the need to justify your preferences in a response to me i'll probably never see it and i'm not trying to change your mind just want 2DSAMURAI to know i truly appreciate what he's done even if not everyone does)
This is probably the best Dragon Ball torrent out there. What really got me was the Broadcast Audio. Well done, man!
Damn. This release would have been the ultimate release, if DBGT had the English hip hop dub (whatever that was) and the intros attached to Dragon Ball. It's just weird starting a Dragon Ball episode and not hear that iconic JP theme song.
Can you show what settings in Handbreak you used for Dragon Ball Super to get them to look good as yours?? An image of them would be good too.
thanks for this really good torrent!
Hey Umm for dragon ball (DB) aren't there supposed to be 9 sagas not 8?
And Also another Quick Question, is each Saga considered as a Season? (So 9/8)
But other than that great torrent!
