Schwarzesmarken is not really a prequel to TE, more like another spin-off in the Alternative universe that takes place before this.

@Sigma_103 Kinda, Akane is not in this adaption not sure on the light novel. She's in the original Muv-Luv which has an adaption coming up soon https://myanimelist.net/anime/40608/Muv-Luv_Alternative which I hope they adapt it properly. I encourage folks to play the game you won't regret it. Can watch this anime just fine but it kinda ruins the "introduction to the series". I won't spoil what I mean.

"Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse" takes place after the events of "Muv-Luv Unlimited": The latter has been adopted with an alternative plot under the title "Muv-Luv Alternative", without chronologically catching up with the eponymous plot of the initial release. "Schwarzesmarken", like "Muv-Luv Alternative", is a spin-off, but one that at best plays from before the events of "Muv-Luv Extra", because itsn't an adaptation from the novelization.
