Project Name: DBZD5
Goal or Reasoning for the Project: The goal of the project is to have all episodes, movies, and specials of DB, DBZ, DBGT on a single DVD5 disc, all fitting within 4.38GB.

Edits: I've cut out redundant intro's and outro's, and redundant animation such as NEP's and recaps.

Total Size: 3.9GB

Includes:

  • Dragon Ball (153 Episodes, JP Audio, Eng ASS Subtitles)
  • Dragon Ball Z (291 Episodes, JP Audio, Eng ASS Subtitles)
  • Dragon Ball GT (64 Episodes, JP Audio, GTeam Eng ASS Subtitles)
  • Movies (Toei Remastered DB 1-4, DBZ 1-15, DBS Broly: JP Audio, Eng ASS Subtitles)
  • Specials (Trunks, Bardock, GT TV Special, OVA's, Festival Featurettes, PSA's: JP Audio, Eng Subtitles)
  • Dragon Ball Manga (Format: DJVU, 800x1200, 72 dpi, converted from AnHeroGold-Empire release)

Video Sources Used: DB/DBZ/DBGT Dragon Box Remux Releases. Amazon remastered movies, Remux BD’s, and various other sources for the other videos that I can’t remember, I believe all came from Nyaa though.
Audio Sources Used: Japanese only from DB/DBZ/DBGT Dragon Box Releases, Broadcast audio where available.
Subtitle language: English.
Technical Specifications:
Video Codec: VP9 CRF 58-63, 320x240 for 4:3 material, and around 320x180 for the widescreen material.
Audio Codec: Opus Mono ~8KB/s

Other Notes: This release is not for everyone. It’s more of a novelty than anything. However I’ve tested these videos playing on my old Droid X smartphone which is the oldest phone I have available, and everything plays flawlessly using VLC player. This means that on some of the oldest or cheapest low powered smartphone devices available, you should be able to watch Dragon Ball using the least amount of storage. This also means on a single $0.19 DVD-R, you can fit the core of Dragon Ball Media.

Future: The last phase that I wanted to do with this project was to create a Linux LiveCD pre-loaded with a video player and DjVU reader software, packaged along with these media files so that anyone with a computer and DVD drive, would be able to play it. Unfortunately, my Linux skills weren’t good enough to complete this part of the project at this time. This reminds me of the early days of trying to find DB/DBZ/DBGT on the web with good quality and the best available was Anime HQ. That was not fun.

@Impakt yeah I remember those days. Super5 12mb real player (.rm) encodes. Wow those were some days. Takes me back the pre 9/11 era, that was some else

I'm glad that RMVB rips died out because those had terrible quality, but many liked it due to the miniscule sizes.

@Impakt i actually still have the rmvb rips on my old laptop if you wanna torture yourself, i rememer i had to watch the videos at actual size cause the quality made me wanna claw my eyes out

@Bodhi , Basically...yes. It's also for people who want to burn tens or hundreds of DVD's, and then deliver them via drone/catapult/balloon/etc., into countries like North Korea (just put some Korean subs in it), or similar where it's not allowed.
