Could you make the subtitle track the Default track for future releases? If a Default isn't set it won't show subtitles automatically.

What player are you using? Something hardware-based?

On a PC subtitle track autoselection can be configured in many programs, it's even possible to automatically show two tracks at once with the help of some filter like ffdshow (this requires subtitles to be external files to show different ones instead of two copies of one track).
