Seemed odd to me too. I set the encoder at 30 on the final run. Mediainfo came back with slightly different frame rate numbers on various episodes. I reset the description to "Variable" if that makes you happy.
I hope you enjoy it! It's a old shoujo anime with REAL villains that you can love to hate and a sappy love romance story.

Sorry but this encode is just bad, there's weird encoding blocking, rainbowing still present, interlacing, 3:2 instead of 4:3. Just get Exiled-Destiny's rip instead.

I don't know why there isn't an encode of the newer Media Blasters 2012/2013 release which doesn't have hard subs and slightly better video from what I remember.

I knew there was going to be criticism of this encode. The video is stored on the Geonen discs at 720x480, displayed at 640x480. I decided to encode at 720x480. My only defense is that I had a totally miserable time with the Geneon disks. I worked on it for two months just to get the results you see. I redid every episode until I thought they were watchable. The video gets better in the later discs. I suspect that Geneon handed seven people, seven sets of files to do the original work. Nothing worked twice from one episode encode to the next.
In my opinion, they are at least consistent even if not to 2019 video standards. I would not have released it if I thought you could not stand to watch it. As for that there is not a SINGLE encode from another person here. If you want a better one, make it yourself. By the way, the default subs are mine, not vobsubs.

Exiled-Destiny encode is much better, although they do crop a little and go a little heavy on the filters which I don't like. I prefer to just watch on the Media Blasters DVD's.

Ratman, I also like the 640x480 clarity better. When i reviewed the series to begin with I saw it as a easy way out. I felt the aspect ratio though made the characters look stilted. I did not like the idea of cropping either that tends to make the characters look large on a modern screen in my opinion. so I left it wide. Call it a experiment that opens up all kind of encoding problems as Tennouji has so kindly explained to me. This was run through Avdemux before it ever went over to Handbrake. I am not so new at this as to simply hit hope and pray on Handbrake when I do a Encode. I think the story is engaging enough to put up the video problems. I understand some people are very sensitive to the quality of the video they watch, but there are also a lot of people who will enjoy this series as it is here.. You might take a look at the subtitle timing and placement on these episodes. I removed a lot of stacked lines and changed the placement sometimes to keep as much of the picture open as possible.

He meant hardsubbed OP which is source problem. Also no signs/songs and ED were in source so i am expecting your softsubs might be the same.

Thanks for the comments Sameer. Points well taken. They did not offer clean openings and endings on any of the discs, I did have to leave those hard subs. In Generator Gawl for example I was able splice clean openings, English subs only, and credits on the last episode only in that series. I think that one came out really well.

Thanks a lot Somaheir. Nice to see a comment from you. The ED torrent was a little dark and it is not listed on Nyaa anyway. Baka does not appreciate having their private torrents listed everywhere and I respect that. The Geneon discs were dark also. I made slight changes to the contrast and brightness on this one. I also used a Gassian filter for Luma. I think if softened the line sharpness some. I wanted to keep the painted cell effect as much as possible. The 720x480 leaves everything in and fits the screen better, but the video quality of my encode does suffer for it. The vertical and horizontal panning are just bad at times. This was deinterlaced and decombed. That is not where the problems come from. I do think there are some good points to be had for my encode though.

For what it's worth you can easily fix the aspect ratio without reencoding.
