Rebecca "Becky" Miyamoto is the youngest every graduate of MIT, at only 11 years old. She takes up a job as the teacher of class 1-C. Hijinks ensue. Her school is insane. Almost everyone is nuts. There's a cat in the vending machine that might or might not be God. There are aliens monitoring Becky.

If you think that my description is somewhat short, it's because one can't actually describe Pani Poni Dash using regular sentences. Here's the writing process for this show/manga:

The show is bonkers. It throws so many pop-culture references at you, from both Japan and America, that you need a guide book to get them all. Thankfully they provided the guide book. Let me explain how the subtitles work here. There are three subtitle tracks.

1: Dialogue/Signs/Songs/Graffiti: This translated everything on screen. This is the normal, default track.
2: Dialogue/Signs/Songs: This does not translate the random background text. This track is for novices who think the normal difficulty track has too much on screen text.
3: Vid-Notes/Dialogue/Signs/Songs/Graffiti: This is the same as the default track except it also provides notes for all the references that take place. For advanced readers only. You won't actually see much of the anime using this one.

So, this is a SHAFT show. But it's an old school SHAFT show, so there aren't any head tilts. Also, some people claim Pani Poni Dash is devoid of fanservice. It is not. There's plenty of it, it's just that most of it is in the segment illustrations, or only 1 frame long.

The subtitles are vobsubs, so you have been warned. As per my policy, vobsubs are internal. The OVA uses subs from gg, since there was nothing else I could use.Made it internal so to match the rest. I will keep regular releases with external subs.

Take note, the BDs weren't great. I did the best I could. Hell of a lot better then DVD rips though. Enjoy.

PS: This release is dedicated to that festering ooze swamp called 4chan. Those nuts are the ones who convinced me to try this show.

Tehe, Kamiya Hiroshi WAS in Pani Poni Dash!. At least according to MAL and Wiki. He was "Nikukyū Bochō".

Are you really this stupid or are you just pretending? Actually curious.
I've told you four times (this is the fifth) that if I have to use vobsubs (.idx) they will be internal.
When I'm using softsubs (.ass) they will be external.

I've also mentioned that the OVA has internal .ass as an exception, since the other 26 files have internal.

You still included internal softsubs for all of this release, even though it contains both .idx and .ass. Why not do this with all of your releases then? As you can see, internal softsubs are far more convenient. You can add multiple subtitle tracks, and it just takes one second to turn them off/on so no need to do absurd things like deleting the karaoke just because you want to turn it off.

Dias... shut up. I've explained this to you four times. You either don't understand English very well, have poor memory, or are just trolling. I will continue to use external subs for my releases EXCEPT when dealing with idx.

The BD is a typical oversharpened oversaturated smudged upscale and it's definitely not "hell of a lot better" than any properly done DVDrip. I'd say the BD is worse thanks to the smudged/jagged lines and constant shimmering of the noise. Detail-wise it's almost the same, the added 1% is likely due to the use of a pre-DVD source (betacam or whatever) and aggressive pre-upscale sharpening.

The comparison is for the encode in this torrent but actually it doesn't matter whose encode this was as long as it didn't fix the abovementioned problems of the BD. Unfortunately, it's next to impossible to fix such a smudged picture so the best thing we can hope for is someone making a filtered hybrid encode using the DVD source as a base and the BD source for those scenes where the DVD has its typical terribly blocky MPEG2 artifacts over an entire high-motion frame. I've seen a couple successful attempts for other anime classics.

Thanks for all the subtitle tracks. They really contribute to understanding the references, just like in Excel Saga.

I think PPD has way more references then ES. There are parts where the notes take up the entire screen here.

I know some people might like the brighter image, but it's just not neutral. Comparing to gg/Oyasumi release, the picture was too bright until I changed the levels, after that they seemed to match better.

Thought I would say this here. It's okay if you don't redo this. It's just hard to find a well done Pani Poni release and it bugs me that I have to watch the old gg/Oyasumi release. Although I like their subs, but still.
