Dragon Ball Super Broly BluRay Color Corrected-Dual 5.1 TrueHD Audio.1080p.Bitrate 34mb/s.x264 V2

Description
Color corrected the video from this untouched rip (https://nyaa.si/view/1135224) using this method with some modifications (https://github.com/StevenMattera/BrolyColorCorrection)
V2 to fix some slight banding issues that ffmpeg innately has with an added -sws_flags +accurate_rnd+full_chroma_int command, picture is now 100% identical to the original with color correction
Used the color profile from the github link and the following ffmpeg settings to maintain as much of the original video settings and quality as possible. No file conversions, just a straight encode:
ffmpeg -i "C:\Program Files\ffmpeg\bin\original.mkv" -vf "curves=psfile=DBSB.acv, eq=gamma=1:saturation=0.94" -c:v libx264 -b:v 34M -bufsize 34M -minrate 34M -maxrate 34M -sws_flags +accurate_rnd+full_chroma_int -refs 4 -preset ultrafast "C:\Program Files\ffmpeg\bin\new.mkv"
Includes the original English and Japanese untouched 5.1 audio and Funimation subs for just signs in English and full subs.
IF YOU ARE WATCHING THE MOVIE WITH HEADPHONES OR STEREO SPEAKERS, MAKE SURE VLC IS OUTPUTTING THE SOUND AS “STEREO” INSTEAD OF “ORIGINAL” SO IT IS DOWNMIXED PROPERLY AND SOUNDS MUCH BETTER (so much it’s ridiculous). THIS IS WHY IT SOUNDED SO BAD IN CERTAIN THEATERS. To do this, in VLC click on the “Audio” tab, then “Stereo Mode”, then “Stereo”.
If you have any suggestions, let me know!
First image is the original, second image is color corrected.

god this movie is stupid
dbz was never big on story but this is beyond even that
that's not how re-encoding works, especially with the ultrafast preset
the original was 4:2:0 but okay
The ultrafast preset is the most lossless preset. You're probably thinking of the veryslow preset, which compresses the video and hence takes longer to process, and the extra commands I put in would offset any of the "detriments" from the ultrafast preset such as reference frames. And the original was 4:2:0, 4:4:4 is just an extra step of "overkill" to make sure nothing is changed, since 4:2:0 is compressed and 4:4:4 is uncompressed. So yeah it should be 100% identical, especially with a crf of 12, where a crf of anything below 18 is visually lossless.
You are actually fucking retarded holy shit.
Not only do you fucking misunderstand the very clearly named presets (pro tip: less CPU effort spent encoding = worse quality in the same bitrate, or same quality in a higher bitrate, dumbfuck), you apparently don't know what chroma subsampling is, and also don't know that you can literally just remux if you're after distributing the original video track. You seemingly also manually typed out what normal people would just use mediainfo for.
This all would be forgivable if you didn't act like you knew what you were talking about, which you clearly don't. You are peak mount stupid.
My bad I'm new to all this, figured most of this info was right since I got it from various forums. So what kind of settings would you recommend? Wanna make the best looking one I can.
No need to be rude to the guy, he's trying his best. I think this is the best-looking release and I really appreciate the effort.
I don't even know where to start here. Use actual crf rate control, if you use minrate and maxrate, you're going to use ABR/CBR bitrate. Using a fixed bitrate, the faster presets will effectively reduce quality.
Just because you used the same bitrate as the input file does not mean the encode is "lossless" by any stretch of the imagination. That is not at all how this works.
Chroma upscaling something will just bloat the file, and since you're using a fixed bitrate, waste bits on redundant data and therefore effectively reduce quality.
Cool, so use the veryslow preset, get rid of these lines -b:v 34M -bufsize 34M -minrate 34M -maxrate 34M -sws_flags +accurate_rnd+full_chroma_int, and what should I replace them with to maintain bitrate and remove ffmpeg's banding? I can't seem to find a crf rate control command in the documentation.
EDIT: Oh i get it, use only crf without the bitrate constraints. The bitrate wont exactly match the original video's, but its better than locking it the way I was.
i don't think anyone who encodes anime uses ffmpeg so it's probably the wrong tool for the job
most people use x264 + avisynth/vapoursynth
anyway what you're trying to do is a pretty advanced topic so you should probably just leave it for someone who knows what they're doing (or just wait for a BD that doesn't have the wrong colors)
Yeah the reason I used ffmpeg is because that's what the github for fixing the colors used. And may as well learn since I'm here haha.
UK: May 27th
JP: June 5th
The UK release definitely won't have green tint but it's not known if the Japanese does so these efforts to remove the tint are somewhat pointless.
Other release dates:
ES: May 29th
PT: June 5th
AU: June 19th
IT: June 20th
FR: 31st July
Hopefully these won't have it either but wouldn't count on it.
@CheekyKoala, I have a collection of anime batch ranges from 10GB to 200 GB and I have a friend who is kind enough to let me encode in his pc. You seem to know a lot about encoding and I have several questions that I would like to ask. I was planning to ask these is Handbrake Forum but a real-time personal guide is really helpful. I normally encode in very slow preset with a CRF of 19. My facebook ID is "https://www.facebook.com/shay.cormac.315" please knock me. I would really love your help.
Why don't we all wait for MangaUK version of Broly - Bluray - Encoded by Real Video Editing Professionals
People please learn to appreciate the efforts, don't be harsh, they are atleast trying, what are we doing, simply just downloading & bashing others efforts
Wait for MAY 27th, like many green tint criticizers are waiting for it, it will be on NYAA as soon as it gets released
I appreciate your efforts to remove green tint with your best way possible, it looks very similar to MangaUK with minor mistakes, but no problem, you are not an expert on video editing
@Blackhole Try here instead.
You know what I consider unforgivable? Flaming on a guy who's actually trying his best. Why don't you make a better one if you know so much.
Hilarious comment lol.
I personally have issues with this encode too, but I don't see why some of you blame a guy for trying. You guys are a sickness to nyaa. The guy is taking his very first steps, and you all try to tackle the poor guy.
That being said, if you can't wait 20 more days, I'd advise to indeed switch to veryslow preset, and indeed only use crf to control quality. I'd say a crf of 16 should suffice. And in ffmpeg, in most cases, the less options you specify, the better the result. I'd keep the forced level 4.1 for compatibility reasons. So try to keep your line as pure as possible, only specifying the necessary. For instance, with Pendekar, we only specify crf, the 4.1 level, and the verylow preset.
And something nobody mentioned before, it is impossible, I repeat, impossible to mess with a video's colors/chroma/whatever without reducing quality. Same quality as source is a pipedream. But hey, at least you tried. Don't let these angry dudes discourage you. Keep practicing. You're line actually isn't that far from producing the best possible result with said source. You just do a couple of unnecessary things. I use to do that all the time at first too.
If you're trying again, I have something interesting for you tho. I recently found a way to convert TrueHD to DTS HD-MA without quality loss. I did this to both audios and even restored the Japanese version of the song during the credits on the Japanese dub. Lemme know if you want them. DTSHDMA is more supported by hardware then TrueHD and for some reason sounds slightly better. (the bass boost, I think?)
Anyways, if you ever need help, just ask.
His best isn't very good.
Because dragon ball is fucking gay.
Here's a better one:
-preset veryslow -crf 18 -profile:v high -level 4.2. Wow that was hard. Look at me reading manuals, knowing what rate control is. If you want to be even better, use 10-bit x264 for free compression gains. If you want to be even better better, use vapoursynth to filter it where needed to e.g. deband scenes afflicted by banding.Sorry that this isn't a hugbox for people who are unable to read. I'm sure the DBZ community has plenty of circlejerks already with which I have to deal with semi-regularly when they bring their shitty ass drama to this website.
Lol, I think there's some bad modding going on here.
No, I would be a bad moderator if I banned you out of the blue. Voicing my opinion as a fellow user of this site does not make me a bad moderator.
Thanks for all the advice guys! And lets not flame cheekykoala, he probably has something going on in life. Anyway, so I think I'll try this for my new command line:
ffmpeg -i “C:\Program Files\ffmpeg\bin\original.mkv” -vf “curves=psfile=DBSB.acv, eq=gamma=1:saturation=0.94” -c:v libx264 -refs 4 -preset veryslow -crf 12 -profile:v high444 -level 4.1 “C:\Program Files\ffmpeg\bin\new.mkv”
I tried high10, but it gives me the error that it "doesn't support 4:4:4" which I don't understand too well, so figured high444 is the next best thing if I understand it right
And I'm keeping the low crf cause I wanna get as close to the original video's 34mb/s bitrate as possible
Also @pukulan, sure if you wanna send me your audio files I can mux them in at the end, that way you'd have 3 audio options for each language which would be cool.
Would ya'll recommend keeping the reference frames line (I wanna match the reference frames of the original video) or remove it?
Cheeky. What he's saying is right, even if you don't like the way he delivered it. Grow a spine.
4:4:4 refers to the chroma subsampling. For this you'll want to keep it 4:2:0. I don't know why 10bit gives you that error, but whatever. Unless the source is 4:4:4, there's no reason to go with that here unless you're actually properly filtering it through something like VapourSynth.
Please don't (although if you do, just do nothing but lower the crf further and further). Bitrate is NOT an indicator of quality, and anyone that tells you it is is a bumbling idiot. If anything you should consider raising the crf. 16 will probably be good enough.
More reference frames helps with compression at the cost of it taking longer to encode.
Thanks! So then i'll use high420, crf 16, and I'll keep the reference frames value, maybe bump it up to 6. And tbh the reason I did this was because I uploaded another torrent that merged the non-green mangauk video and funimation audio, but someone said the mangauk video was basically garbage because it only had a bitrate of 7mb/s, were they wrong?
And I know what he's saying is right, think that's pretty well demonstrated in how I've addressed the issue, but usually if someone is that aggressive there's something else going on. I just don't wanna start a flame war lol.
Check the Discord link I sent on this release before. It's a lot easier to explain these things over chat than in comments.
sounds good, @ you on discord
When I posted that comment, I only saw one sentance of my entire previous post, I thought my post was meant to be removed totally, but ended up being removed only partially. Same happened to your post. As it's back now, I believe I owe an apology. Sorry. I didn't even know you were a mod lolz. And feel free to ban me. I'm sure the DB community would love it... ;-)
This is very true. Also, source is 8-bit. Encoding to 10-bit is useless. And it would require another build of ffmpeg, as 8-bit and 10-bit encoding requires the ffmpeg build to be compiled for said bit depth.
I would do it like this, personally:
ffmpeg -i “C:\Program Files\ffmpeg\bin\original.mkv” -vf “curves=psfile=DBSB.acv, eq=gamma=1:saturation=0.94” -c:v libx264 -preset veryslow -crf 16 -profile:v -level 4.1 “C:\Program Files\ffmpeg\bin\new.mkv”
The less options, the better.
He was wrong in saying it is garbage, but it's true that it's bitrate is much lower. BD's>WebRips.
Let's all chill the F out. Only 20 days till at least 2 new BD's come out.
I would drop it. It's up to you in the end tho. Add "@gmail.com" to my username to email me. Both DTS HDMA files are like 5GB together lol.
at least we agree on something.
The DB community is already sorta toxic and has too much drama but let's just try to be friendly and get along.
I'm not talking about a "safe space" but just being all good. We don't need to be like, let's say, Enigmo who calls people "retarded", "autistic" and "nigga" as insults. We're not kids anymore, but yet the drama (not necessarily here) would say otherwise.
The DB fans on Nyaa are generally pretty nice.
@pukulan sent you an email
Also, gonna stop seeding this torrent since Im gonna reecnode and upload a new one
Lol the guy who made all the drama by going ape shit on the poor guy who made the torrent is now complaining about people bringing drama to the site?
Oh! the irony!... I'd suggest you stop making drama yourself, before pointing your finger at others.
Anyways if you need help just say it, I've been encoding stuff for 15yrs and there's many here who know about this stuff, you don't need to be a so called "professional" to encode anime, and ffmpeg is perfectly fine too.
Thanks! After talking to a discord of encoders and the people on here, this is the command line I've settled on
ffmpeg -i “C:\Program Files\ffmpeg\bin\original.mkv” -vf “curves=psfile=DBSB.acv, eq=gamma=1:saturation=0.93” -c:v libx264 -preset veryslow -crf 16 -level 4.1 -pix_fmt yuv420p10le -refs 6 “C:\Program Files\ffmpeg\bin\new1.mkv”
Yeah, there's a difference between me pointing out a torrent is garbage and the DBZ community using sockpuppet accounts to post each others dox in the comments, believe it or not.
@jakecr: Thx for proving there are still some decent people left here.
@spinmaster1490: That looks a lot better. You could probably do without the " -pix_fmt yuv420p10le -refs 6" part tho, although it shouldn't hurt either. Replied to your e-mail. And jakecr is right. You don't need to be a pro. And ffmpeg IS the most used encoder, especially for anime. Only for 3D it isn't perfect. And even then, I think it's our limited knowledge.
These comments were a fun ride, thank you all.
@CheekyKoala Who hurt you?
Should've stopped reading there.
No. Unified 8-bit and 10-bit libx264 is a thing for quite some time now.
