Dragon Ball Z - FUNimation HD Remastering Process

Saved on 2019-07-25 10:10:02. This copy includes the description and comments available at capture.

Description

Downloaded the YTRips via YouTube-DL but obviously it's still compressed although it gives you a rough idea that FUNimation is competent to make a proper Dragon Ball Z high def release, if they wanted.

The Level Set remaster process can be found on Level 1.1, Disc 2. Season Set Blu-ray remaster process on Season 4, Disc 6. You can probably get the Season 1 Blu-ray Trailer on BD too. Season Set DVD Remaster on Season 1 (likely the last disc, as logic goes).

We'll NEVER EVER get anything close to the level sets (which themselves were not perfect) from funimation again, but at least we can have some hope from toei right? And by hope, I mean hope which comes with it's obligatory green tint, and censoring. Am I right ey? Ey.. Ey.. EYYYYYY...

Does toei ever post they will release Dragon Ball Z Blu-ray? Check from their twitters and web site doesn't find any info.

@ SoulBurner

I'd bet they're working on remastering Dragon Ball Z series in HD but it's likely going to look similar to the TV Specials 1 & 2 remasterization, so, meaning there'll be a balanced amount of DNR without ruining it. Frankly, I love the clean look of TV SP1 and TV SP2 but I don't fancy the god damn green tint! -.-"

@ Tonum1

Going by what TOEI has released, there's a strong possibility of DBZ series in HD happening. Give them time and we'll see. We'll probably not see anything until they have remastered all 291 episodes.

For whatever worth it is, yeah, zman.

Steve Franko on the Season Set DVD remaster told us a bunch of bs lies but on the Level Set Blu-ray remaster he was honest. Was he given a script to read for the "Orange Bricks" remaster? Find out next time on Dragon Ball Zeeeeeeeee! lol

@Super_Saiyan_Lusitano
I'm with you here, and I'll admit that I was actually surprised when I watched the Bardock special you posted two days ago. It looked so gorgeous!! The green tint is something that can be dealt relatively easily for someone with a know-how in color correction (tho it's annoying, especially when we spent almost 2 decades with the Dragon Boxes color)

And as for toei remastering the series, it's kinda expected they'll do it, and I hope they do it. And I also hope they give some love to DB, and even GT. And lastly, I HOPE they don't censor anything.

@Super_Saiyan_Lusitano

Are you doing dubbed for the dragon box z? Can't find a single one with correct sync. Using @Ramao dragon box set

The one I found (DBNL) was synced to the R1 Dragon Box Z and it's not compatible with the R2J Dragon Box Z.

I'd recommend waiting for iKaos' synced audio releases. He uses the Level Sets for episodes 001-039 and R2J Dragon Box Z for 040-291.

You can get all 001-039 episodes of the Level Sets in the highest quality possible (001-034 on Blu-ray | 035-039 on WEB-DL) but it does create a bit of a inconsistency. To be honest, I don't mind and would've loved the entire Z series on Level Sets as the quality is vastly superior.

@Super_Saiyan_Lusitano
iKao's level sets are encoded using his filter/settings. He refuses to upload the raw files here though, this results in multiple versions, now its V3. Why not just mux audio to the level sets?
When are you dropping GT, can't wait for that to happen!

@ gokuz

That's how I've been acquiring subs and dubs, by downloading full video releases because the freelancer/fansub doesn't put out the sub/audio files only. But after you get them, extracting the files needed is pretty easy though it can take some time depending if it's one, two or hundreds of them.

As for why I've not uploaded GT, I've been waiting to download this release below. I want to extract the OP/ED and NEPs by FUNimation but William Martin (the uploader) has gone missing for days now.

Once I get this, I can finally upload Dragon Ball GT: Dragon Box GT DVD-REMUX. It's around 120GB ~ 130GB.

@Super_Saiyan_Lusitano

Which episodes are you missing? I have both funimation + jap music and funimation + eng music. I can help you out.

@Super_Saiyan_Lusitano

Ah got it. Mine doesn't have NEPs. And tried that torrent and its also stuck at 10%. Don't really mind NEPs being absent/silent but I admire your dedication on that though. I'm surprised no one has R1 Dragon Box Z, even u2 and ab.

I have that, yeah. But I'll probably upload it to AsianCinema.me because torrents here don't last very long alive.

ACM is similar to ADC in that it's a private tracker with a ratio system so as long as you follow the system's rules, all's good. I have someone waiting for an invite but I can give you one afterwards.

My public email is [email protected] if you want to contact me.

@gokuz I encode from the Level Sets because, despite being the best that DBZ is ever going to look, they don't contain NEPs, which is important to me, so I have to add them manually. I actually didn't have a raw source when I was doing my v1 and most of the v2 encode, and so this is the first time I'm actually using it. I don't do any filtering besides a light noise reduction because there is a LOT of grain that creates bloat. I'm still not entirely happy with the file size to quality ratio but it is what it is - not everyone has TBs of space and I'm trying to respect that with my version.

I will probably remux the Level Sets for those who want them after I complete my v3 encodes.
