BlackRabbit Encodes
BlackRabbit focuses on mini encodes made for users who want to save storage space without giving up solid video and audio quality.
Our goal is simple: find the best available remux source, preferably with dual audio (Japanese + English) when possible, and encode it into:
- Video: AV1
- Audio: Opus
This makes the releases especially useful for people running automated setups such as Sonarr, where smaller file sizes can save a lot of storage over time.
Our Encoding Approach
We generally do not make unnecessary changes. The aim is to keep everything as close to the source as possible, with only these main differences:
- video is encoded to AV1
- audio is encoded to Opus
- overall file size is significantly smaller
In other words, the release should remain effectively the same as the source, just in a more storage-efficient format.
Source Quality
Source quality is very important to us. If a better remux/source becomes available later, we may re-encode the entire season using that source and increase the version number.

Sonarr Compatibility
Compatibility with automated media systems, especially Sonarr, is one of our main priorities. Because of that, we try to keep file names as Sonarr-compatible as possible to make library management easier and more reliable.
Our Priority
Our main goal is to provide mini AV1 encodes for as many anime as possible while still maintaining good video and audio quality.
When strong AV1 releases from other groups are already available, we would generally recommend using those instead. BlackRabbit's focus is on helping fill the gaps by providing compact, high-quality AV1 encodes across a wide range of titles.

this is almost the exact same size as mtbb's av1 encode
also, it'd be nice if you had information on sources in the description instead of a copy-paste on every single one of your torrents
@br1ne The source is always included in the MKV container metadata. On NekoBT, you can use "View raw mediainfo" and inside it you should see an entry like "Source: Legion". I will try to include it in description as well going forward.
@br1ne Our goal is to provide mini AV1 encodes for as many anime as possible. I do not think it hurts anyone to have multiple mini AV1 encodes available, since different releases can still offer different strengths. Some may have better quality depending on encoding settings, while others may include more subtitles or more audio options depending on the source used.
Also, MTBB’s AV1 encodes are not published on the NekoBT website, and Nyaa regularly temp-bans users who rely on automated systems like Sonarr to monitor a lot of anime, likely because of API rate limits.

@br1ne I used to run a small game hosting provider, so I have got quite a few Ryzen 9 9950X servers, plus some older 5950X ones. At this point, power draw is more of a scaling problem than hardware.
